The Morning After: Google does gaming with Stadia

Hello good day! You look great.

Finally we have a name and some details for the new Google gaming service, and Samsung’s Galaxy Fold has made an unexpected appearance on YouTube. In addition, Netflix’s April release schedule is fully established, and Nathan Ingraham has an opinion on the new iPad Air.

Google’s plans for its broadcast service to make the “Netflix for gaming” promises of the industry a reality. Ideally, it will allow people to play any game on any connected device. Stadia will be able to transmit games in 4K, 60 fps and HDR color at launch, but will eventually admit up to 8K.

Stadia will allow developers to sell their games in new ways, including directly through YouTube and Twitch live. For example, load an Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey trailer on YouTube and, at the end, click on the Play button and the game will load in just five seconds in your Chrome browser, ready to play.

Imagine joining the session of your favorite streamer by just clicking on a single button or letting a friend from anywhere in the world jump out of the sticks and take over the game you’re playing with no problems. A style transfer function uses machine learning to apply art styles to the game world in real time, turning even a monotonous landscape into a colorful screen. Meanwhile, your gamepad connects directly to the service through WiFi, with dedicated buttons for sharing clips and Google Assistant.

The technology giant will begin to ask current and new users in the region what their preferred browser and search applications are. While Android users can download almost any application they want, the company is likely to do this to show the EU its “ongoing commitment to operate in an open and principled manner.”

On Monday, the company presented two updated iPads and on Tuesday revealed that the iMac is receiving a minor update. In the future, the 21.5-inch model will be offered with an Intel Core i5 six-core, eighth-generation CPU in the high-end, plus 4GB of AMD Radeon Pro Vega 20 graphics. That top-level sku will also include a Core processor i7 of six cores of eighth generation as a configuration option upon request. In the 27-inch version, for the first time, the Intel Core i9 is an option, as well as a Radeon Pro Vega 48 8GB GPU.

With less fanfare, Apple also reduced the cost of SSD upgrades for MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini, as well as the price of more RAM in their Mac Pro. Take a close look before pressing the buy button.

Among the highlights of April are You vs. Wild, an interactive survival program starring Bear Grylls (April 10) and the long-awaited documentary series Our Planet, narrated by David Attenborough and the creator of Planet Earth (April 5). From April 12th, you will be able to see the star of Not all the boys that I have loved, Noah Centineo in The Perfect Date, in which he plays a high school student that allows people to hire him to be her boyfriend.

On the non-original front, Netflix will add New Girl season 7, Fifth Element, Pineapple Express and The Golden Compass. You’ll have until April 1 to watch movies like American Pie, a series of James Bond movies (including Casino Royale), Happy Feet, Luther, Pokémon: XY and Heat.
